Kids Dirt Bikes

Have you ever wondered, what do really you know about Kids Dirt Bikes and children's motorcycles. If your not sure, why not read and digest this article and compare it to what you know about the latest on kids dirt bikes.

It is very important that you gather as much information on kids dirt bikes as you can, the more facts you know before buying and allowing your kids on any dirt bikes, the safer in the long run they are going to be.

Many children, like mine have grown up in families where a motorcycle is a part of their daily life. I can remember taking my two kids out for rides off road on a quad as soon as they were 3-4 years old. This understandably was a bit traumatic for my partner as she had only had a very limited motorcycling experience. However, I have been on and around motorcycles since I was a toddler so it was such a natural process for me to introduce my children to dirt bikes.

Riding Kids Dirt Bikes

I have found that the majority of kids, whether boys or girls, love it when they start riding dirt bikes, but I also know full well that the issue of children's motorcycles can be very controversial. So much so that in the US I believe that the selling of certain kids dirt bikes for 12 years old and younger has become illegal.

There are many makes of dirt bikes for kids to ride on their own by the time they are four or five years of age. Mine all learnt the basics of how to ride on small 49cc quad bikes at first and then progress onto the smaller 50cc dirt bikes when I could see they were confident enough. Of course the 50cc dirt bikes I started them with, were fairly low to the ground and didn’t go very fast. When I look back at it now, I think it has all been very good practice for them to learn the basics of operating vehicles of different sizes and power.

Now I'm not saying that everything will go smoothly and there will not be the odd bump and mishap along the way, and always remember that kids should never be left to ride a motorcycle without the proper safety equipment and without parental supervision.

Kids Dirt Bikes & Safety

Since children can’t legally ride a kids dirt bike on the road, they will have to ride them in the fields or on dirt tracks. So it is essential that the type of kids dirt bike you get them is designed to handle any rough terrain. You should also remember that a good motorcycle helmet that fits them, which is preferably a full face one and of course protective clothing is just as essential as the right type of dirt bike. It is going to be a forgone conclusion that your kids will fall off their dirt bike at some time, so having the right safety equipment for dirt bike riding is very important.

Never allow your kids to ride their dirt bike or any other type of motorcycle with another child on board. This type of situation can lead to a certain amount of showing off, which is only natural, but is always a sure recipe for an accident to happen. Carrying a passenger also adds extra weight to the motorcycle, which it may have not be designed for, and of course the child operating the motorcycle will not be used to, and may not be able to compensate for the change in the bikes handling due to this extra weight.

Yes operating or riding on a motorcycle or any machine for that matter can be dangerous, both for a child and adult alike, but it can also be a great deal of fun. If you ride and act responsibly you and your kids will always be safe, have great fun and have some great memories.

Riding a dirt bike can be great fun for kids and as a parent you will find that it will help them become more a lot responsible. They will also learn valuable skills about the right way of operating a vehicle and safety issues at a very early age. Kids who wear and get used to having the right safety equipment as a child will continue to do so as an adult. They will also develop better skills to make them safer drivers so that when they are old enough to want a car or motorcycle for the road, they will already have plenty of experience.

It’s really nice when parents’ style of life becomes a hobby of their children. And you are right, wearing safety equipment is really important!
